The Dead Sea in Jordan is situated in the Jordan Valley, 55km from Amman, the capital of Jordan. It is the lowest body of water on earth and the lowest point on earth, containing the richest source of natural salts and minerals. This is what gives the water the renowned curative powers and therapeutic qualities.
The Dead Sea waters contain more than 35 different types of minerals that are essential for the health and care of the skin, including magnesium, calcium, sulphur, potassium and bromine. The minerals found in the Dead Sea help relieve pain caused by arthritis and rheumatism and help treat skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.
The filtered sunrays and oxygen-rich air contribute to the feeling of total relaxation and well-being.
The area is sparsely populated, with just a handful of hotels.
The Dead Sea Spa Hotel (4* equivalent) is a treatment resort, consisting of a main building and bungalows, a Lebanese restaurant, coffee shop, bar and snack bar, leisure room, gift shop, library, private beach and 5 fresh water pools. There is an Aqua Fun Centre with 55m long water slides and children's funpools, changing rooms and showers. All rooms are airconditioned with private bathroom, hair dryer, telephone and colour TV with satellite channels. Room rates start from £45 per person per night regular season on half board basis, single supplement £22. High season supplement (mid March-mid June and October) is £9 per person. The Dead Sea Medical Centre is located next to the Dead Sea Spa Hotel and is available for the treatment of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, eczema, vitiligo, acne, arthritis, rheumatism and for general spa treatments such as massage, mud packs and hydrotherapy. The centre has a fitness room and an indoor pool. A natural solarium is located beside the clinic, separated for men and women. The clinic is open 7 days a week.
